On May 13, 2017, I had the pleasure of attending the Capital Indie Book Con in Olympia, Washington. It was sponsored by a local indie press. They invited a variety of indie authors and small presses.
The event drew people, yes, but not many. Those readers who did show proved themselves to be loyal readers of indie authors; they were gracious, fun, enthusiastic and supportive.
We all live busy lives: work, school, kids, marriage, dogs, cats...I get why more people weren't there.
Here's the rub: indie authors need you.
Small presses need you.
As an indie author, we have no large corporation buying ads in magazines; no TV commercials, People Magazine articles....we survive by loading up the car and driving to events such as this. We thrive on your Amazon review, or blog posting, or comments on our website. We live for YOU. We like YOU. We need YOU.
We're here to serve you and give you entertainment. Tell us what you like. Tell us what you don't. Tell us what you want to read.
Plus, we have candy.
